The Brady Medal is the highest award of The Micropalaeontological Society.
The Medal is
given to scientists who have had a major influence on micropalaeontology by
means of a substantial body of excellent research. The medal is primarily to recognise and
reward scientific excellence; service to the scientific community may also be a
factor for consideration.
The Brady Medal is
named in honour of George Stewardson Brady (1832-1921) and Henry Bowman Brady
(1835-1891) in recognition of their outstanding pioneering studies in
Micropalaeontology and Natural History. Given acceptable
nominations the Medal is to be awarded at least every two years.
The Medal is cast in bronze from original sculptures commissioned by The Micropalaeontological Society in 2007. The sculptor is Anthony Stones, a Fellow of the Royal Society of British Sculptors and President (1999-2004) of The Society of Portrait Sculptors. The Medal is hand-crafted by the leading sculpture foundry Pangolin Editions of Chalford, England.
The award will be presented at the Micropalaeontology Society’s Annual General Meeting held in November each year. It is meant to serve as a substantive endorsement of the value of the recipient’s work made by their peers. The medal was commissioned and awarded for the first time in 2007 to Prof. John W. Murray.
Nominations must have a Proposer and Seconder, both of whom should be
Members of the Society and not be affiliated to the same institute as the
person they nominate. The Proposer and seconder should not be from the same institution as the nominee. To make a nomination, please complete this form, which will ask for the name and e-mail address of the two nominators and relationship to the nominee; the name, e-mail address, significance of research to science of micropalaeontology (including key publications), as well as their service and other contributions to scientific community.
Nominations should be made in strict confidence and in no circumstance should the person
nominated be informed.
The nomination deadline is February 28th each year. Each nomination will stay on the
list of nominations for a maximum of four years then roll off. Rolling submissions need not be resubmitted each year.
