BLAM UK and The Equal Rights Trust thank you for showing your interest in participating in this focus group.
Project Aim
The Equal Rights Trust and BLAM UK have developed a new initiative “Implementing the UK’s legal obligation to combat prejudices which lead to racial discrimination in education”. The objective is to support organisations and movements working to decolonise the National Curriculum to make effective use of international and domestic law in their advocacy. A key component of this initiative is gathering evidence on the National Curriculum. This focus group is intended to give teachers the opportunity to express their opinions on the National Curriculum and share their experiences on how it impacts day to day teaching, the school environment and their students.
Who Are We?
The Equal Rights Trust (ERT) exists to eliminate all forms of discrimination and ensure that everyone can participate in society on an equal basis. To achieve this mission, the organisation works in partnership with equality defenders – civil society organisations (CSOs), lawyers, government representatives, and others committed to using law to create an equal world – providing them with the technical, strategic and practical support they need to work for the adoption and effective implementation of comprehensive equality laws.
BLAM (Black Learning Achievement and Mental Health) UK is an award-winning educational, advocacy and mental health not-for-profit that works to champion Black British cultural capital and creativity, improve the mental health and wellbeing of peoples of African descent, provide a comprehensive and decolonised education system, and support social inclusion of the Black British community.
What can you get from this?
Attendees of the teacher focus groups will be eligible to participate in a 1 hour BLAM UK anti-racism and Black narratives teacher training session. This group training session will assist teachers who wish to learn how to embed Black British cultural heritage and African and Afro-Caribbean histories into their everyday teaching. For focus group participants the usual fee of up to £1000 will be waived and they can secure a space for free.
This form is expected to take less than 5 minutes, and is designed to facilitate the data collection process. By collecting this general information, we hope to use the focus group to collect more qualitative data: understanding individual and collective teaching experiences with the national curriculum.
