Software Freedom Day (SFD) is a worldwide celebration of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS). Our goal in this celebration is to educate the worldwide public about the benefits of using high quality FOSS in education, in government, at home, and in business - in short, everywhere! The non-profit organization Digital Freedom Foundation coordinates Software Freedom Day at a global level, providing support, giveaways and a point of collaboration, but volunteer teams around the world organize the local SFD events to impact their own communities.

Our vision is to empower all people to freely connect, create and share in a digital world that is participatory, transparent, and sustainable.

In Nepal, it has been regularly organizing and celebrating Software freedom day since 2005. From 2007 to 2009, for three consecutive years, FOSS Nepal's SFD celebration was recognized as the best event in the world. The members of OSAC club were integral to the development of such culture in Nepal. With its rich and prodigious history, Open Source Ascol Circle (OSAC) is dedicated to celebrate SFD and grow the pool of knowledge and network of youths.

This year we are celebrating SFD 2018 with slogan “Open Source for multi-disciplinary integration”. The main event will occur on 15th Sep, 2018 at Theatre Hall, Amrit Science Campus, Lainhaur, KTM. We have planned this event to be beneficial for people from different sectors closely related to IT. This event will have exhibition, stalls, entertainment, speeches from renowned figures and paper presentation on different hot topics like open street mapping, big data, open data, & such by communities and companies in Nepal.
