Join the PTA for the 2025-26 School Year
Joining the PTA is a great way to contribute to the HJIS community and enhance our children's experience at school. The PTA works to foster constructive relationships among parents, school staff, and students and to promote understanding and evaluation of the school's educational program. There are two main ways to contribute: as a member of the PTA Board and as a Class Representative.

The PTA Board:
  • Acts as the PTA’s decision-making body
  • Sets yearly goals for the PTA
  • Coordinates school-wide PTA sponsored events such as the ICF, movie night and more
  • Serves as the primary liaison between the overall parent body and the school leadership
  • Makes decisions regarding how PTA funds are used

Class Representatives:
  • Serve as a liaison between the parents and teachers of a class or grade
  • Encourage communication among parents via a Line Group or other forum
  • Keep class parents informed about school news and upcoming events
  • Encourage parents to attend and volunteer for school events
  • Organize class events if you wish to
  • Welcome new families when they join HJIS

Description of roles
  • Chair: Sets the agenda for meetings, chairs Board meetings, sets the general direction of the PTA, monitors progress in executing Board decisions, communicates with the school leadership regarding PTA matters
  • Vice-Chair: Assists the Chair in all duties, assumes all tasks in the absence of the Chair, fills in as Chair should the position become vacant
  • Treasurer: Keeps financial accounts and records of the PTA, presents an estimated annual budget, ensures that all funds paid relate to the aims of the PTA, prepares financial statements
  • Secretary: Assists the Chair to draft and send agendas, drafts meeting minutes, handles internal and external secretarial work
