The Nu Interest Form - 2025

Hello! This is the 2025 interest form for living in the Nu, home to Penn Med’s co-ed frat/co-op. This home has been lived in by Penn medical students for over 100 years, starting as the site for Penn Med’s professional society/fraternity. Nowadays, the Nu is a co-ed community of 10 Penn medical students from all four class years who live and learn together! We’re conveniently located just a few steps from Penn. We're thrilled that you're interested in living with us, and our goal with this application is to provide a non-stressful way for us to get to know you and for you to learn a bit more about the Nu.

Here’s the quick run-down of the Nu:

The House — Our beautiful 4 story home is conveniently located in the heart of Penn’s campus, 10 minutes from the medical school and hospitals and right in front of the Septa and Penn bus stops. We boast large common rooms and spaces, a basement with gym, a full kitchen (with 10 stovetops, 2 ovens, and 4 large fridges), 10 private single bedrooms, 3 full bathrooms, a Victorian library, rooftop access, a driveway for 6 cars.
The Roommates — We have students from across all 4+ years of med school. Med school is tough, and coming home to a 10 person community after a long day of classes or rotations has been vital to our wellbeing during med school. The level of exposure to students in years above you is has been a formative part our our med school experience and is really unparalleled elsewhere in the med school.
The Rent — Because our house is privately owned, we don’t have landlords, which means our rent is dirt cheap (~$400-$600), which is about half as much as you should expect to pay basically anywhere else in the city. Since we don’t pay true rent, our “rent” goes towards taking care of our home and having a good time together, covering utilities/taxes/etc., maintenance costs, and social events like camping trips, an annual formal, hosting events, and exploring Philly together.

This application is available to all incoming MS1s. If you're interested in living with us or want to learn more, fill out this form. We will reach out to you to set up a couple quick 10-minute chats with members of the house so we can get to know you a little better, so you can get to know us, and ask us any questions you have. We'll be reviewing applications on a rolling basis and will get back to you ASAP to accommodate your housing planning for the upcoming year.

The Nu is home to 10 Penn medical students, which means the house can be very lively at times (though we do know how to hunker down and get work done too!). Does that sound like a living situation you'd want to be a part of? *

To take care of our 4-story house, everyone living at the Nu is in charge of a weekly cleaning chore on a rotating schedule. Does that sound like a reasonable arrangement? *

I've never done chores before, but this sounds like something I could get the hang of quickly

The Nu plans and hosts several annual parties for the Penn med student body to help foster camaraderie among our peers. We put effort into planning, hosting, and cleaning up after these parties to make sure they're fun and enjoyable for everyone. How does that sound? *

The maid quit years ago and they're not coming back! The house is only as clean as the 10 of us make it, which means we try to achieve a steady state of cleanliness that works for everyone in the house. Tell us more about your needs in regards to tidiness: *

You could bounce a quarter off my bed when I'm done making it, and I'm happiest when common spaces are as clean as I keep my own room.

I tidy up my room when I need to, but I'm okay with spaces not being perfect as long as they're clean and functional

I've never given much thought to it--it just seems like things naturally end up clean enough to tolerate

I wouldn't be bothered if things got pretty gross

We stan SEPTA (Philly public transit) but a number of us have cars, and we're lucky enough to have a private parking lot out back. Are you planning to bring a car? *
