As we wrap up our 2013 theme, 5k Run & Fun Walk, we are preparing for the next round of GAD themes. Please vote for the idea that you would like to implement in your site (in the form of activities or projects). We will use this information to focus our efforts on creating awesome resources for you!
If you have another theme idea, please vote for one of these and then tell us about your ideas so we can use them in the next round of theme submissions!
Here are the NEW THEME ideas with a short toolkit idea attached to each one:
Theme A: Beauty in Different Forms
Toolkit Proposal
This toolkit would address the challenges young women face with regards to feeling beautiful. It would include activities focused on building self-confidence, understanding the various aspects of beauty, and discussing beauty from the Moroccan perspective and other cultural contexts from around the world over a two day conference. The purpose of the toolkit is to encourage young women to recognize the ways in which they are beautiful, and for them to walk away from the workshop with a more positive self-image.
Theme B: Entrepreneurial Spirit
Toolkit Proposal
How hard is it to start a business? Now imagine how much harder it is for a women. This toolkit will provide a creative way to help inspire women to pursue a career in the business field. The curriculum will help empower participants in developing personal skills such as accounting and finance as well as building their own business plan. PCVs would implement a three day business plan competition in, which participants would learn how to create a business plan, make their own business plan, and would present and critique their plans with their peers.
Theme C: Starting Soccer Strong
Toolkit Proposal
Are you tired of soccer being a male-dominated sport in your town? Then how about trying a toolkit that encourages women to play soccer! The toolkit will equip volunteers with the foundation for creating a women's soccer club. It will cover rules of the game, coaching styles, how to run soccer practice, and even fitness training tips. The toolkit includes a three day camp that recruits, trains, and scrimmages a new soccer team, and teaches young women about soccer, leadership, and sportsmanship.
Theme D: Leading through Conflict
Toolkit Proposal
Young people of all genders experience conflict differently. This toolkit will provide an approach in exploring how volunteers can address and promote gender equality when implementing projects and activities. By increasing understanding of gender awareness and knowledge participants will receive a better approach in dealing with their daily activities and interactions with the opposite gender. This toolkit will include a one day event of activities that will explore gender equality in the context of conflict resolution through role playing and a written piece on how to best promote gender equality during the implementation phase of projects and activities as PCVs.
Theme E: In the Pink
Toolkit Proposal
This toolkit will include materials and inspiration to create a two-day health fair in your community, including lessons for PCVs to teach to peer educators, interactive health learning activities, and questions to guide discussions on complicated health topics. This toolkit will be designed to be used in a DarChebab or Neddie Neswi with a focus on high school aged girls as partner-educators and women/other high school girls as attendees of the fair.
