5th Annual NJSMA Elementary Choral Celebration
The NJSMA 5th ANNUAL ELEMENTARY CHORAL CELEBRATION will be held at the Presbyterian Church in Morristown. (57 East Park Place, Morristown) Dr. Matthew Webb, visiting Assistant Professor of Choral and Vocal studies at Drew University and Director of Music at Presbyterian Church in Morristown, and Deborah Mello, Artistic Director of CCSC and Adjunct Professor of Choral Music Education at the Cali School of Music at Montclair State University will serve as the clinicians.

Two sessions are planned: Morning (9:30-11:30 a.m.) and Afternoon (12:30-2:30 p.m.)

Elementary choirs will have an opportunity to participate in a non-competitive event and receive feedback from master clinicians. Choirs will perform individually, listen to other groups, and unite in song at the conclusion of the event. Our goals are to further develop children’s musicianship skills, nurture a deeper appreciation of the choral art through performing, listening and communal singing, and foster a life-long love of choral singing. In addition, participating choral directors will have the opportunity to grow professionally and artistically by receiving comments and feedback from master clinicians.

Participation is limited to six elementary (grades 2-6) choirs (three per session).
The participation fee is $200.00, payable by check to NJSMA or PO.

Each participating choir will present two songs of choice during their 20 minute time slot. A master clinician will offer a brief clinic to each choir and director following their performance.

A piano and risers will be on stage. The time slot includes getting on and off the risers. Participants are responsible for providing their own accompanist.

The culminating combined piece is the canon “O Music” by Lowell Mason.
