Mentorships are meant to be an avenue in which students and young adults can grow in their faith, receive wisdom and develop relationships with an older Christian in the church.
All mentors have been vetted and interviewed by Garrett. You can either be placed with a mentor or request a specific person. If your prospective mentor has not been vetted and interviewed, Garrett will reach out to them to start the process! All mentorships will be same gender.
Mentorships can be whatever you and your mentor feels is the best use of your time, but generally mentorships will be focused on prayer, support, and accountability.
Prayer: Mentors commit to regularly praying for and with the mentee. Mentored Relationships will be encouraged to engage in a number of spiritual practices (Daily Office, Examen, Lectio Divina, Bible Study, etc.)
Support: Mentors commit to providing spiritual and emotional support and encouragement. This is a place in which you can share your burdens and ask life's big questions. This is not about offering advice (unless requested!) but rather walking through life’s struggles together.
Accountability: Mentored relationships commit to helping each other grow in the Lord. In Mentored relationships we will do the hard, sometimes painful work of keeping each other accountable to the Lord. While confession of sin can be part of accountability, mentored relationships should not be solely concerned with sin management. We are invited to confess our sins, but are never coerced. The larger focus is on helping each other become more disciplined in the Christian Life and developing healthy spiritual habits by engaging in spiritual practices (scripture reading, prayer, sabbath, silence and solitude, etc.)
