Hertz Traveling Scholarship Application
The Alfred Hertz Memorial Traveling Scholarship is awarded to persons who have manifested unusual talent in music and who show a bona fide intention to devote their lives to music. It was the donor’s intention to enable recipients to study either in the United States or elsewhere, and he hoped, through the scholarships, to help “find and develop true genius in the art of music.”

The amount of the stipend and the number of scholarships awarded each year depends on the overall quality of a given year’s applicants and the qualifications and needs of the individual recipient.

Eligibility: Anyone who has ever been affiliated with the University of California, Berkeley, including current and former students, is eligible to apply.

Required Materials:

• Letter from the proposed teacher indicating acceptance of the applicant as a student;
• Two letters of recommendation
• A short autobiography with a full description of your musical training;
• Optional: a recording, an original composition, or a published review.

Deadline: This application and all supporting materials must be submitted by February 15.

We will notify you with the outcome of your application by April 1st.
