Old Books & New Glasses: Reading with Young Children: Join early childhood educator and consultant Suzanne Stillinger as she explores some of the basics of reading aloud with young children (including newborns and infants!), focusing on some of the common issues and stumbling blocks that can come up during read-alouds.  Outdated language, sexism, racism, ableism, and other big questions raised by young children can stop us in our tracks and leave us searching for The Right Thing to Say.  No picture book is perfect, but they can spark some great conversations, and Suzanne will offer you some tips, tricks, and scripts for helping you become better able to navigate those tricky moments!  (60 min)

Caregiver Cafes: Join other caregivers/parents for an evening of casual parenting conversation as we help each other celebrate and navigate the ups and downs of parenting! Childcare is provided and dinner is served for all in attendance. Come for one, two, or all three!

This is an IN-PERSON event at Bridge Street School.
Talking about Bodies w/ Suzanne Stillinger: Young children are naturally curious and candid about bodies – their body, your body, even the body of the person in front of you in the checkout line!  Join early childhood educator, disability rights advocate and accessibility consultant Suzanne Stillinger for an exploration of positive ways to talk about bodies with young children with a focus on disability justice, fat positivity, gender inclusivity, and body acceptance.  We all learn from a young age that our society values some bodies more than others.  We will explore some ways to help untangle that kind of mindset in our children, and in ourselves!  Topics will include: how the words we choose to discuss bodies matter; how to handle your child's questions about someone else's body out loud and in public; how to navigate discussion of illness and sickness, including mental illnesses and invisible disabilities.
