With learning and public access at the heart of its mission, the Castellani Art Museum (CAM) welcomes exhibition proposals from individual artists, artist groups, and independent curators. The Castellani Art Museum of Niagara University connects diverse audiences to art by inspiring creativity and learning within the campus community and beyond.
Exhibition proposals are encouraged to reflect on at least one of the following topics:
- Unique Artistic Expression
- Contemporary issues and current events
- Regional Artist Themes (Western New York/Niagara Falls)
- Inspiration or dialogue with the CAM’s permanent collection

Community and civic engagement
- Innovation and emerging media

Science, art, and interdisciplinary collaboration

Education and lifelong learning

Collaboration between artists, scholars, and communities

Collections-based research and reinterpretation
Priority will be given to proposals that:

Engage students, faculty, and visitors through experiential learning, or public programming.

Encourage interdisciplinary collaboration across academic fields.

Include educational and public engagement components, such as lectures, workshops, artist residencies, or community collaborations.
The CAM also welcomes proposals that offer innovative use of the museum’s outdoor front portico area and/or utilize and enhance our sculpture grounds. Proposals with traditional and non-traditional artistic media are accepted.
The CAM presents, on average, 4-5 exhibitions annually, which include student, faculty, and staff-curated explorations of the CAM collection, as well as temporary exhibitions of outside artists. Particular attention is given to the balance between the presentation of our outstanding permanent collection and highlighting national artistic interests throughout our nine dynamic gallery spaces, portico, and outdoor sculpture grounds.
REVIEW PROCESS:To submit a proposal for an exhibition, complete the Exhibition Proposal Form below. Please note that part of the proposal submission is the inclusion of 5 jpgs of the art proposed for display.
Once received, proposals will be reviewed, evaluating their relevance to CAM’s mission, artistic merit, relevance, fundability, and conceptual strength, fit to the exhibition schedule, and significance to the greater Niagara region.
Exhibitions are scheduled a minimum of 18 months in advance of their opening date. Submissions are reviewed on a rolling basis by the museum staff, and may take several months to be reviewed after initial submission.
