The MSU Animal Studies Graduate/Professional-Undergraduate Mentoring Program (GPUMP) is a mentoring program that connects MSU graduate and professional students working in animal-related fields with undergraduate students interested in animal-related careers. The Student Animals & Society Institute of MSU (SASI) coordinates GPUMP as part of its mission to promote animal studies throughout MSU.
All MSU undergraduate students are welcome to sign up as mentees. Mentees are expected to reply to their mentors within one week of receiving their email, and to meet with them at least once per month during the academic year. Of course, they are welcome to meet with their mentors as frequently as they and their mentors want. If a mentee is no longer interested in being mentored, she/he must inform the program coordinator as soon as possible so her/his mentor can be assigned another mentee.
Mentors and mentees are welcome and encouraged to customize their relationship to fit their unique needs. Some suggestions activities are discussing the mentee's academic and career plans, visiting the mentor's classes or lab, and collaborating on research projects.
