Schedule: Weekdays, Weekends, some Holidays. *Sundays are a MUST*

At Paws and Claws, we are dedicated to providing compassionate care, shelter, and second chances to animals in need. We’re looking for hard-working, animal-loving individuals to join our team as Kennel Assistants and help us create a clean, safe, and loving environment for the pets in our care.
Position Summary:
As a Kennel Assistant, you’ll be a vital part of the daily care team responsible for maintaining clean and sanitary conditions in animal areas, feeding animals, providing enrichment, and supporting the overall well-being of cats and dogs in the shelter.
Key Responsibilities:
• Clean kennels, cages, and common areas (including laundry and dishes)
• Sweeping and mopping, and restocking supplies
• Feed, water, and monitor animals for signs of illness or stress
• Walk and exercise dogs; assist with cat socialization
• Help with animal intake, transport, or veterinary appointments as needed
• Provide basic grooming and enrichment activities
• Maintain accurate records and follow safety protocols
• Communicate clearly with staff, volunteers, and the public
• Cleaning up the yard (mowing the lawn, pulling weeds)
• Learn how to restrain dogs when needed, such as (Vaccinations, microchipping, drawing blood & intake exam)
What We’re Looking For:
• Genuine love for animals and a strong work ethic
• Must be able to work at a sufficiently fast pace to have all animal chores done within a set amount of time.
• Ability to handle dogs and cats of all sizes and temperaments
• Comfortable working in a physically demanding, fast-paced environment
• Ability to lift 50+ lbs., stand/walk for long periods, and work outdoors in all weather
• Reliable, punctual, and team-oriented
• Work independently, in a team & follow instructions.
• Prior experience in animal care is a plus, but not required—we’ll train the right person!

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to odors or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to occasionally loud.
Wages: $13.50/hour starting
Benefits: 1-1/2 time for holidays
