RF Project - 2.4 GHz Automotive Radar System Application

The application form for the 2.4 GHz Automotive Radar System.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
This project seeks to enhance automotive surround view camera systems by developing a radio frequency based radar system to replace the current optical camera system. This will help with visibility in harsher weather conditions and increase the accuracy of the results. The focus will be on developing a frontal radar system to act as a proximity sensor. This project involves designing a patch microstrip antenna and using it with an IC to create a polar graph that will be used to identify objects within the frontal proximity of the vehicle. This radar system will be tested in real world simulations of the vehicle using  real world scenarios. The goal of this project is to pioneer new automotive safety technology that can be further developed to completely replace optical surround view camera systems in vehicles.

Section 10 of 15
Technical Question
A technical question to assess your capabilities. Don't worry if you find it challenging; it is not the sole determinant of your application's outcome.
Write a paragraph on how you would design a radar speed gun using radio frequencies. Explain what materials you would use and what they do.

Robotics - R5 Robotics and Circuit Design Competition
The goal of this project is to compete in the annual IEEE Region 5 Student Robotics Competition on April 6 2024. This year the competition features an unmanned ground vehicle, UGV. During preliminary rounds the robot is expected to navigate an obstacle set to press two buttons without touching the course walls or obstacles. During elimination rounds the bot is expected to follow a predetermined path powered only by a super capacitor! Competing in this competition will provide a great technical project for your resume. You will also gain experience working on a team and may be chosen to attend the competition. If you are interested in Circuit Design competition you must have completed Fundamentals Labs I and II.
Section 12 of 15
Technical Questions
This competition is a systems level engineering task which requires us to source parts to meet our requirements, integrate them, and deliver a working system. Using any available resources, source a super capacitor capable of receiving 500mA of instantaneous current at 5V. After charging this capacitor for 10 seconds how much energy will it hold in Wh?
Provide a link to the super capacitor and indicate if you are interested in the circuit design competition. Example component suppliers: Digikey, Mouser, etc…

PES BLDC Motor Application
The application form for the BLDC Motor Project.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
This project seeks to enhance electric vehicle (EV) performance by developing efficient trapezoidal-controlled Brushless DC (BLDC) motors to replace conventional motors. The focus is on improving driving range, torque, and acceleration by utilizing BLDC motors, leading to better efficiency and extended range. The project involves designing and optimizing trapezoidal-controlled BLDC motors using advanced software and simulations. Testing includes performance metrics like efficiency, torque, and energy consumption in lab and real-world scenarios. The goal is to showcase the benefits of BLDC motors for EVs, contributing to more effective and sustainable transportation solutions.
Section 14 of 15
Technical Question
A technical question to assess your capabilities. Don't worry if you find it challenging; it is not the sole determinant of your application's outcome.
As part of the application process, we request that you design a 555 timer circuit capable of blinking an LED. Please provide a screenshot of your circuit design as a submission. We recommend using TinkerCad for this task, as it is a free tool that allows you to test and validate your design.

Please submit a screenshot of your design!
Your submission should clearly showcase the configuration of the circuit, including the necessary components, their respective values, and the connection layout. Thank you for your participation, and we look forward to reviewing your design.

You can use any and all available resources for to complete this question, even the internet!!!
