Theme: Release & Contain

This theme explores the seasonal process of letting go & composting back into the earth. The release we witness amongst the trees and plants, the gentle slowing down as the season moves towards winter solstice, longer days, stillness , gradually building our resources for the winter and observing how our systems desire support & containment as we enter our version of hibernation.

How this will relate to our work together, is that often where our nervous systems are at can often reflect the seasonal energy.  From a chinese medicine perspective, autumn time is connected to the lungs, breath & grief. So as our bodies are mirrors of the earth - we may notice some of the themes above.

The somatic work that is part of these containers , is all about working with what's present within the emotional landscape, and trusting in the wisdom & emergence of the body.

We will be integrating herbal teas harvested from my garden to support your journey's as well as working with herbal infused oils that support scar healing & circulation.

ScarWork is a gentle hands on modality that will be woven into each session, to support scar tissue healing and surrounding abdominal and pelvic structures.

I am really looking forward to holding this space with you .

Manna ( Healing Resistance Bodywork) -  I am a massage therapist of 8 years and ScarWork therapist of 4 years with an emphasis on supporting folks who face barriers to care and providing a trauma informed and consent lead practice. Outside of the studio you can find me learning about herbal medicine, and co-organising Community Healing Days - a bodywork clinic for low income communities.

I am trained in "Specialist Course for Pelvic & Abdominal Scars”  with a focus on C- Section support and I have completed 2 years of training as a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner. I start my final Advanced Year of training in Nov 2025.

ScarWork is a specialist gentle manual modality that works with scar tissue to improve appearance and tissue health post surgery. ScarWork stimulates the body’s healing process, improves mobility, eases tightness, reduces sensitivity, pain & numbness & improves neural connection. ScarWork focuses on treating the underlying fascia, dermis, and adhesions. The visible scar we see is often the tip of the iceberg, and scar tissue can form in areas away from the scar itself, therefore we work in holistic way to release restrictions including compensating areas of the body. ScarWork supports scar that are 4+ weeks old and decades old.

Somatic Experiencing is a a gentle, collaborative and relational modality that supports people to connect to embodiment through exploring sensations, numbness, emotions and stories of the body in order to support capacity, resilience, presence, aliveness, joy and release and renegotiate traumatic experiences.

Session Format:

The 1st Session will be 90 mins and follow up sessions will be 60 mins

  • Sessions may include a Standing Assessment, Palpation Assessment, and non identifying confidential photos taken before and after each session so we can track changes in the sessions.
  • I will begin with a gentle head hold to allow your body to arrive into the space before we start any ScarWork & each session will end with a head and sacrum hold to support your body to integrate the work at the end of the session.
  • We will be working locally on and around the scars themselves as well as more globally in the surrounding areas such as the abdomen, hips, thighs, diaphragm and back.
  • We always go with the pace and trust of your body on the day.
  • Centering the stories of our bodies: to support the emotional integration of the work we will be incorporating somatic practices exploring the felt sense of the body as well  journalling, drawing and meditation throughout the sessions.

A note on trauma: Receiving ScarWork might bring up emotions, trauma and anxieties, which are all normal responses to have. We can talk through options of how to build up to receiving the work, and we don’t have to work directly on the scar during our first session. We can begin with massage in other areas or fascial work in the surrounding area. It can be common for emotional responses to arise when working with scars and this is totally welcome in the space. We will talk through at the start of the session how I can best support you and your emotional processing if you are triggered and need support to reground.

A key facet of Somatic Experiencing is to build capacity within the nervous system, avoid overwhelm and support you and your nervous system to be resourced and settled.

Healing Resistance is politically rooted and therefore recognises and continuously seeks to understand and hold space for how patriarchy, racism, colonialism, sexism , queerphobia, transphobia and  able-ism intersect and result in oppressive systemic, institutional, medical and community systems that shape our lived experiences.
