As you may know, an ever-growing body of research supports the importance of providing graduate students meaningful opportunities to develop basic competencies in classroom teaching, course design, and other skills essential to support their effectiveness as educators and to maximize student success. Like many institutions across the country, we have recognized the need to provide our graduate students with a systematic, sustained introduction to the art and technique of teaching. To this end, we have developed a 12-week Graduate Teaching Fellow Practicum. Beginning early September, the Practicum will consist of interactive sessions in which students will engage in both practical teaching exercises and a variety of reflective activities. While the times have yet to be finalized, we anticipate that the Practicum will be held every Thursday from 12:30- 2:30 PM.
