Thank you for your interest in adopting a dog from Catahoula Rescue of New England.
Before you begin the process we want to make sure that you are aware of the steps in the adoption process before you begin.
Our adoption process is more detailed than what you may find at your local shelter and this is because our dogs have been failed in the past and we strive to make this adoption their last adoption.
To Begin the Adoption Process:
• Step 1: Complete the enclosed Adoption Application.
Please make sure all fields are completed!
• If there are any areas that are not completed your application, will be considered incomplete and
will not be reviewed.
• Step 2: We will contact you to set up a Phone Interview.
o Phone interviews can sometimes take up to an hour to go over everything we need to discuss. So, please plan accordingly when picking a day and time with our representative.
• Step 3: Veterinarian and Personal Reference Check
o Please let your Veterinarian’s office know that we will be calling for a reference that way they have permission to speak with us.
o Also, let your personal references know that we will be calling. The quicker we can speak to them, the quicker we can provide you with a decision on your application.
o Please be aware that we will also perform a standard background check as submitted and performed via the JD Palatine group.
o If we call your reference twice and leave a message and they do not return our call, please be prepared to provide us with another reference.
• Step 4: Approval / Denial Notification
o Will come in the form of an e-mail to the address you have provided us.
o If denied, your application is closed.
o If approved, we will provide you instructions as to any missing information we may need and will also inform you of
the next steps detailed below. The approval is conditional at this point pending the home visit.
• Step 5: Home Visit
o One of our representatives will visit you and your family members in your home.
• Step 6: Meet & Greet
o Once you have decided upon a foster dog that you would like to meet we will have that dog’s foster parent get in touch
with you and set up a “Meet & Greet”.
o You are required to travel to meet the foster and if you have pets of your own they need to be present at the “Meet & Greet”, as well as your family members, so that compatibility can be assed.
• Step 7: Adoption
o If all goes well at the “Meet & Greet” and everyone is in agreement, then the adoption can proceed and be finalized.
o The adoption agreement will be emailed to you ahead of time for review and will need to be finalized with payment before you may leave with your new dog.
After you have completed the application and submitted it, please be patient – it may be at least several days before you hear back from a representative. We do not place our dogs on a “first come, first served” basis, but according to the needs of the dog. This Application is not a contract or an agreement.
Applicants must be 21 Years Old to Apply.
