Ayibobo!
Dr. Emilie Zila Jabouin's historical, cultural and immersive approach to teaching folklore Ayisyen/ Haitian folk by incorporating drumming, dancing, and chanting/breath are coming together to offer you an 1-hour and a half class of movement & meditation, body awareness, rhythmicality, harmony. This dance class will include Yanvalou, Mayi and Yaya ti Kongo depending on the flow of the sessions. Zila is an apprentice of Master dancer, drummer, teacher and Haitian choreographer Peniel Guerrier based in NYC.
We also have a new instructor and colleague joining us!
Janaka is a yogi and Haitian folklore dancer who grew up under the tutelage of great Haitian dancers and cultural preservers in Haiti. He has developed the concept of Yanvalou Fusion grounded in the principles of flow and energy.
