PLEASE READ BEFORE SUBMITTING: Roots Music Canada is a website for the Canadian folk, roots and world music communities. We consider the following types of music for coverage:
1. Music MUST be Canadian. Non-Canadian artists must have a significant Canadian tour or Canadian connection.
2. We cover the kinds of music you typically find at Canadian folk festivals. This includes folk, roots, world, blues, old-time, bluegrass and non commercial country. It also includes Reggae, gospel, singer-songwriter music and, acoustic music -- both vocal and instrumental. And it can include a broader range of genres, including hip hop and pop, where there is a political or cultural significance to the work, where the lyrics focus on themes of social justice and/or where the performers are members of marginalized communities.
3. Do do NOT generally cover pop, rock, electronic or dance music or any music that glorifies violence, objectifies women or contains material that is racist, ableist, queerphobic, sexist or otherwise demeaning to members of marginalized communities.
