Thank you for your interested in supporting our parade! The KOS is dedicated to providing a quality and enjoyable yearly parade to the community of Southdowns and the city of Baton Rouge. In so doing, we are currently seeking interested volunteers to participate in responsibilities critically associated with the parade’s production and other Krewe events!

Specific Job Listings from Krewe Members

Parade Day Staging Lot Setup (1). Assist with staging and lineup at Glasgow Elementary on February 9 3pm-7pm

Parade Day Float Onboarding (2). Meet with each float as they arrive, Assign/affix element number placard; verify all riders, walkers, drivers have wrist bands; have blank waiver forms and additional wrist bands for any late comers; inspect float to insure there are fire extinguishers; hold safety talk with float captain, drivers, and all walkers. Must be available to be in th Glasgow Elementary parking lot 3-4 hours prior to the parade, which is on February 9, 2024 at 7:00pm.

Parade Command Walkers (3). Walk with and watch over up to 6 parade elements while communicating with walkie talkie to the rest of the command team during the parade, which is on February 9, 2024 at 7:00pm.

Parade Deployment Support (4). Assist Parade Commander with deployment of parade elements as parade rolls. Must be available to be present in the Glasgow Parking Lot a 3-4 hours prior to the parade, which rolls on February 9, 2024 at 7:00pm.

Pre-Parade Day Prep (5). Organizing vests, radios, and assist with king's float preparations

Parade Day Walking Krewe Coordination (6). Receive walking krewes as they arrive and provide guidance on where to congregate in the Glasgow Parking Lot. Must be available from 3:00-7:00pm on parade day, February 9, 2023.

Parade Day King/Queen Float Coordination (7). Coordinate arrival of the king's float and King and Queen's Retinue Floats with Traffic Division prior to the start of the parade. Will need to be available from 3:00-7:00pm on parade day (February 9, 2024).

Become a Krewe of Shrimp Member (8). There is a new krewe in town, and they will be marching down the street in shrimp costumes. All you have to do is pay your $25 walker fee, sign a waiver, buy a shrimp costume, and show up to march at Glasgow Elementary on February 9 by 6:00pm.

Truck and Driver (9). Provide a truck and pull the float. Must attend the mandatory driver's safety meeting on February 5. Must attach and pick up the float in Southdowns neighborhood and line up at Glasgow Elementary with it by 5:30pm. Must then drive the float through the entire parade, then return the float and riders to their original location after the parade ends.

Ball Decorating (10). Help with planning and preparing decorations for this year's ball. The ball is on January 27, 2024 at the Embassy Suites in Baton Rouge 7:30-11:30pm. You must be available from 1:00-6:00 on the day of the ball to help set up.

Bonfire Preparations (11). Gather trees after christmas/new year's to prep for the krewe bonfire (1/3/2023 at 6:30pm). It's a plus if you have a truck and trailer!

Friends of Flambeaux Project (12). This project is meant to gain volunteers and donations from the Southdowns Neighborhood, as well as update our mailing list. This project begins in December of 2023 and runs until Mardi Gras. Help with placing yard signs in the neighborhood by asking permission and rotating signs every so often, asking permission and hanging fliers at businesses who sponsor our parade
