Rules are:
1) You must be 18 years of age or older;
2) Only current Brooklyn residents can participate;
3) Professional singers, recording artists, *affiliation to participating BK Sings Karaoke establishments and employees of the Office of the Brooklyn Borough President are not allowed to compete in the contest and will automatically be disqualified;
4) Profanity is prohibited — registered competitors (contestants) can choose any song in any genre of music with the exception of those that contain explicit lyrics, which will result in immediate disqualification;
5) Solo performances only (no duets/groups);
6) While performing, contestants must follow the words as they appear on the karaoke screen — no freestyle is allowed;
7) When a contestant is called to the stage to perform, he/she must be present and available to sing immediately (their name will be called no more than three times, during the contest, before being disqualified);
8) Each contestant must register online (online registration for the location will close the night before the location's contest date) or at the event location before the contest begins (same day registration is allowed before start time). No one will be allowed to compete unless they have registered;
9) Each location reserves the right to close registration at any point in the night;
10) Any contestant behaving in a disorderly manner will be disqualified;
11) Every contestant will receive a certificate for competing in the competition;
12) Judging will be based on: song execution (10 pts.), stage presence (10 pts.) and audience appeal (10 pts.);
13) Maximum number of contestants will be determined by each participating karaoke establishment producing one semi-finalist to move on to the final round;
14) The semi-finalist at each location will be announced the same night and receive a trophy unless the contestant is required to compete in a **sing off; and
15) The following prizes are non-transferable and can only be used or redeemed by finalists:

First Prize:         Sing at a Public Event and a Karaoke Machine
Second Prize:   Tablet
Third Prize:       Dinner for Two & a Gift Card
 
*affiliation or professional connections to a participating karaoke establishment is defined as employment or relationship to the establishment.
**sing offs are required for those areas that have more than one participating location. Each winner will need to compete for the one local area semi-finalist title.

I hereby consent to the photographing of myself, and the recording of my voice, and the use of these photographs and/or recordings singularly or in conjunction with other photographs and/or recordings for publicity, commercial, or other business purposes. I understand that the term "photograph" as used herein encompasses both still photographs and motion picture footage. I further consent to the reproduction and/or authorization by the Office of the Brooklyn Borough President to reproduce and use said photographs and recordings of my voice, for use in all domestic and foreign markets. Further, I understand that others, with or without the consent of the Office of the Brooklyn Borough President, may use and/or reproduce such photographs and recordings. And I hereby release any associated or affiliated companies, their directors, officers, agents, employees and customers, and appointed advertising agencies, their directors, officers, agents and employees from all claims of every kind on account of such use.
