The 5th annual Mock Pura Belpré Awards hosted by REFORMA Oregon will take place on Saturday, December 7th in McMinnville (so save the date!)

As part of the book selection process, this year the Mock Pura Belpré Awards Committee is collecting children's picture book reviews to post on the REFORMA Oregon blog.

Book Criteria:

- Be a children's book (note: REFORMA OR is specifically looking for picture books)

- Be an original work that portrays, affirms and celebrates the Latino cultural experience

- Be published in the United States or Puerto Rico during the preceding year (this means 1) that books originally published in other countries are not eligible and 2) that the book has a publication date in the year under consideration, was available for purchase in that year, and has a copyright date no later than that year. An eligible book may have a copyright date prior to the year under consideration if it was not published until the year under consideration. The intent: that every eligible book be considered, but that no book be considered in more than one year)

- Authors or illustrators must be Latino/a and be residents or citizens of the United States or Puerto Rico (For purposes of this award, “Latino” is defined as people whose heritage emanates from any of the Spanish-speaking cultures of the Western Hemisphere)

Deadline: there is no set deadline for book reviews. The idea is for individuals submit reviews between May – October 2019 in preparation for the December awards meeting. We will post reviews to the REFORMA OR blog throughout the next several months.
