Christine Shawcroft, in her role as Chair of Labour's disputes panel, intervened to lift the suspension from the Labour Party of a known Holocaust denier. This is a totally inexcusable and abhorrent act. The Holocaust was the greatest crime against humanity in history, the fact that a member of Labour's governing body has attempted to intervene in order to support a Holocaust denier remaining as a Labour Council candidate is, quite frankly, disgusting.

Christine Shawcroft has now resigned from her role as Chair of the Disputes sub-committee of the NEC but not the Disputes sub-committee itself nor the NEC. This does not go far enough and IS NOT A ZERO TOLERANCE ATTITUDE TO ANTISEMITISM. If Labour is to to be taken seriously on its opposition to antisemitism, we must lead by example.

We therefore call on Christine Shawcroft to resign from her position on Labour's NEC immediately.
