Dear Parents/Guardians,

We are looking forward to an exciting new school year. It is TBG’s goal to provide safe school transportation to Tuacahn High School’s students. Although we make every effort to ensure the safety of the students on the bus, there are situations that require your assistance and participation in order to improve safety. Sometimes, children can be exposed to a dangerous situation because of their own or another person’s behavior. In order to provide this service, we ask parents to review safety with their children. Parents are responsible to get children to and from bus stops. Until the student steps on the school bus, parents are responsible for their child’s safety and conduct. Please don’t send children to the bus until the bus has come to a complete stop. The following are some suggestions or examples of what to talk about:

Rules for Bus Riders:

Follow all bus drivers’ directions immediately.
Stay seated at all times leaving the aisle clear.
Remain quiet and in assigned seat while on the school bus.
Keep hands, feet, and other objects to yourself.
Respect others by using appropriate language at all times.

Boarding the bus:

Students must form an orderly line a safe distance from the bus.
Wait for the bus driver’s signal before boarding.
Enter the bus one at a time using the handrail.
Go to your seat and sit down immediately.
Place items on your lap or under your seat.
Items that will not fit under the seat or on your lap are not permitted.

Conduct while riding the bus:

Remain seated while on the bus.
Keep hands, arms, head, and all parts of the body inside the bus at all times.
Remain facing forward and talk in a normal voice tone.
Refrain from loud and/or vulgar language.
Food or drink may only be consumed on the bus with special permission from the bus driver.

Exiting the bus:

Stay in your seat until the bus comes to a complete stop.
Walk quietly down the aisle keeping your hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
Use the handrail when exiting the bus.
Immediately walk at least 12 feet from the bus. Go straight to your destination.

The school bus is an extension of the classroom. Students are expected to follow the same rules on the school bus as they follow in school, including the dress code. All bus passengers are under the direct supervision of the bus driver and should follow their directions immediately. All passengers are expected to comply with the following:

-Be on time at the designated bus stop. (At least 5 minutes before time of bus arrival).
-Wait for the bus in a safe place, clear of traffic. Do NOT play in the parking lot or on commercial property, while waiting for the bus to arrive.
-Wait for the driver’s signal before boarding.
-Wait in an orderly line, do not crowd or push others when entering/leaving bus. Use the handrail.
-Aisles must be kept clear. Personal belongings, books, instruments, projects, etc. must be held on student’s lap. Large items which cannot be held in the student’s lap or fit under the seat are not permitted on the school bus.
-Students must not have anything in their possession that might cause injury to another; e.g., sticks, breakable containers, knives, laser pointers, scooters, skateboards, large musical instruments, or any type of firearms or fireworks. No drugs or inappropriate sexual material. No animal, reptile, fish, or fowl is permitted on the bus, except service dogs with prior authorization.
-Students must sit down and remain seated (facing forward) until the bus comes to a complete stop at their pick-up/drop-off or school locations. Follow directions of the driver in regard to seat assignments on the bus.
-Do not extend hands, arms, head or any part of the body through bus windows.
-Do not attempt to leave the bus other than at a regular stop. Once the driver has shut the door and started to pull away from a stop/school, the bus will not stop again. When exiting, immediately walk at least 12 feet from the bus. Go straight to your destination.
-Be respectful to the bus driver, fellow passengers, and passersby. Keep your hands, feet and other objects to yourself.
-Students will refrain from excessive noise, boisterous behavior, fighting, vulgar or obscene language or gestures, and racial or sexual harassment.
-Food or drinks may only be consumed on the bus with special permission from the driver. Keep the bus clean and exercise care to prevent damage.
-Cell phones may be used, but the camera function or other camera devices may not be used.

Discipline procedures are designed to assure every student has safe transportation to and from school and school sponsored activities. TBG will communicate with parents/guardians regarding their student(s) who do not follow the bus rules.
