Navigating Conversations: An Ombudsman's guide to leveraging dialogue for collaboration
Ms. Susan John , Regional Ombudsman, Bangkok, United Nations Ombudsman and Mediation Services

In the workplace, we regularly engage in conversation, whether with our peers in a team, a supervisor or a supervisee. Sometimes conversations can be difficult and if not managed properly, can lead to conflict. This workshop will focus on building better dialogue, and will also look at managing difficult conversations. The session will consist of two parts: a section that deals with the underlying neuroscience of communication that serves also to highlight individual and collective attitudes towards communication, followed by a section that introduces skills and competencies for more effective communication. We will learn how we can better prepare for and manage difficult conversations with various stakeholders.
