The Emerson School PTA Board Nomination Form for 2024-2025
The PTA board is committed to enhancing the educational experience of the students and the Emerson community. It represents the parent body and allows you to be a voice for the families in your child’s school. Please consider running for the PTA Executive Board of The Emerson School Q287.  We are looking to fill all positions. The Election will be held virtually on October 8th from 3 to 5 PM.

Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) Eligibility
(1) The PTA must elect the mandatory core officers of the President, Secretary, and Treasurer in order to be a functioning PTA.
(2) Eligibility for office is limited to parents, legally appointed guardians, foster parents or persons in parental relation to students attending The Emerson School who are not employed at The Emerson School.
(3) The term of office shall be from October 8th, 2024 through June 30th, 2025.
The responsibilities of President or Co-President will include, but are not limited to the following:
(1) Preside at all meetings of the Association.;
(2) Is an ex-officio member of all committees except the nominating committee;
(3) Appoint association committee chairpersons with the approval of the executive board;
(4) Encourage meaningful participation in all parent and school activities;
(5) Provide opportunities for members’ leadership development;
(6) Delegate responsibilities to members of the Association as needed;
(7) Attend all regular meetings of the presidents’ council;
(8) Is a mandatory member of the School Leadership Team;
(9) Meet regularly with the executive board members;
(10) Plan the agendas for the general membership meetings;
(11) Is one of the eligible signatories on checks, and debit card disbursement forms;
(12) May be responsible for DOE issued email account;
(11) Assist with the June transfer of Association records, including all pertinent user IDs and passwords, to the incoming executive board.
The responsibilities of Treasurer or Co-Treasurer will include, but are not limited to the following:
(1) Be responsible for all financial affairs and funds of the Association;
(2) Maintain an updated record of all income and expenditures on school premises;
(3) May be a signatory on checks, and debit card disbursement forms;
(4) May be responsible for setting up online access to the bank account,
(5) Adhere to and implement all financial procedures established by the Association;
(6) Prepare and present a written report of all transactions at every executive board and general membership meeting (which includes income, refunds, reimbursements and other expenditures, and opening and closing balances for the reporting period);
(7) Prepare the Association’s interim and annual financial reports;
(8) Make available all books and financial records for viewing by members upon request and for audit;
(9) May have access to the DOE issued email account,
(10) Prepare all government filings (including annual IRS and NYS filings).
(11) Assist with the June transfer of Association records, including all pertinent user IDs and passwords, to the incoming executive board.
The responsibilities of Recording Secretary or Co-Recording Secretaries will include, but are not limited to the following:
(1) Be a member of the PTA Executive Board.
(2) Maintains the official record (minutes) of all Executive Board and general membership meetings in accordance with the PTA bylaws and Chancellor’s Regulations.
(3) Prepares and reads the minutes of each PTA meeting and distributes copies of the meeting minutes at the next scheduled meeting for review and approval by the general membership.
(3) Be responsible for the preparation of notices and agendas to be distributed as well as sign-in and attendance sheets.
(4) Maintains custody of PTA’s records on school premises.
(5) Signs and incorporates all amendments into the bylaws and shall ensure that the latest signed copies of the PTA bylaws with the latest amendments are on file in the Principal’s office.
(6) Be responsible for reviewing, maintaining and responding to all correspondence addressed to PTA.
(7) Assists with the June transfer of PTA records to the incoming Executive Board.
The responsibilities of Vice President will include, but are not limited to the following:
(1) Be a member of the PTA Executive Board.
(2) Assists the President or Co-Presidents and assumes the President’s or Co-Presidents’ duties in his/her or their absence or at the President’s or Co-President’s request.
(3) May be one of the signatories on PTA checks.
(4) Assists with the June transfer of PTA records to the incoming Executive Board.
The responsibilities of School Leadership Team (SLT) will include, but are not limited to the following:
The School Leadership Team (SLT) is a group of parents, teachers, and administrators responsible for setting the educational direction of a school. The SLT’s core responsibility is to develop the school’s Comprehensive Educational Plan (CEP). Each team member must contribute at least 30 hours from September to June by attending two hours of mandated training, attending monthly SLT meetings, participating in team activities, analyzing data, reading documents, and participating in the monthly agenda. The team meets as a group at least two hours a month at a regularly scheduled time.
