If you are interested in getting involved with Ocean Corps, please fill out this form and we will either get back to you individually or add you to our email list.
There are many different ways in which you can engage with Ocean Corps, and so we have several questions to get to know you better and how you would like to be involved. This is an evolving entity, so please be patient with us if you don't hear back from us right away. We also welcome any more information or feedback in the last question on this form!
Ocean Corps seeks to serve two primary purposes: (1) Lowering the barrier for starting new capacity building efforts and (2) be a unified platform for existing capacity building activities to share best practices and learn from one another.
If you are interested in helping to start new capacity building exchanges, we currently have three types of scientific exchange that are in the works. These three exchanges are referenced near the end of the form:
1) Short-term schools: (also called "summer schools") Modeled after the Coastal Ocean Environment Summer School in Ghana (COESSING;
coessing.org). This would include short (up to a few weeks) schools with a focus on broad ocean education, e.g. via lectures, hands-on labs, or field work.
2) Long-term stays: We are using this term to encompass longer-term scientific exchanges than workshops that are catered to collaboration and knowledge exchange. This may include hosting or being hosted by an international collaborator or mentor for a 6-month research exchange. The emphasis would be placed on involving scientists from under-resourced backgrounds and countries.
3) Open-source and cloud computing workshops: Due to the success of teaching Python and open-source programming skills at COESSING, these workshops will be tailored to the teaching and practice of Python and other computing languages that are open-source, using openly available data, and promoting other open science practices. The intention is that these computing workshops will be on a shorter timescale, similar to the general workshops listed above in (1).
