DFID tackle the global challenges of our time including poverty and disease, mass migration, insecurity and conflict. Their work aims to build a safer, healthier, more prosperous world for people in developing countries and in the UK too - including aiming to end AIDS as a public health threat by 2030.
Restless Development is proud to be the main partner of DFID leading on the recruitment and support of the Youth Delegate to join the UK Official Delegation to the International AIDS Conference this year.
INTERNATIONAL AIDS CONFERENCEThe International AIDS Conference is taking place on July 23rd -27th in Amsterdam. It is the largest conference on any global health issue in the world and provide a unique forum for Governments, civil society, industry and medical professionals covering the intersection of science, advocacy, and human rights. This year’s conference aims to convene the world’s experts to advance knowledge about HIV, promote human rights based HIV responses, galvanize political commitment to the HIV response from all stakeholders, address gaps in the HIV response and spotlight the current state of the epidemic.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:We are looking to support one young person from the UK who has clear passion, skill and experiences for working on issues relating to the global HIV response, and will be selecting the applicant on the basis of the below criteria, as well as ensuring that our recruitment reflects our commitment to diversity and inclusion, including championing the representation of young people living with HIV. Only young people from the UK can participate in this opportunity. ELIGIBILITY, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS:- Between the age of 18 and 25 by July 2018.- A UK citizen.- Have a clear passion and skill for engaging in issues related to the HIV response. - Demonstrated experience of engaging in the global HIV response through either volunteering, campaigning, awareness raising or fundraising. - Good knowledge of key debates around access to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support.- A passport valid for at least six months.- Flexibility and adaptability to new and fast-changing situations, and a positive attitude.- Belief in the role of young people as activists and the potential of Youth Stop AIDS.- Proven ability to engage, motivate and inspire others.- Ability to work as part of a team and to get on with others.- Excellent written and oral communication skills.- Passion for youth-led development and adherence to the mission and values of Restless Development: http://restlessdevelopment.org/our-values.
AVAILABILITY:You will need to make the following time commitments:- Be available for an interview in London / via Skype with Restless Development on w/c 23rd April.- Be available in May - June to arrange conference logistics with support from Restless Development.- Approx. 2 - 4 hours in May - July for briefing calls with Restless Development.- Available to attend a one day training in London in June (date TBC).- Available to travel to Amsterdam from July 22nd to 27th 2018.
TRAVEL AND SUPPORT:- Restless Development and partners will support you before, during and after this conference to ensure your meaningful and effective participation - (with briefings, a one day training, resources, speaking points, logistical support).- Your flights, insurance, transfers, accommodation, IAC delegate pass and daily subsistence costs (£25 per day) will be covered by Restless Development.- You will be supported by the Youth Stop AIDS Coordinator on the ground in Amsterdam for the duration of the Conference.
