Itinerant Music Lessons - Information and registration of interest - 2018
King's High School will again offer music lessons to students at school during 2018.  Your son has expressed an interest in learning an instrument this year. Lessons take place in school time, for 30 minutes, and are taught by specialist, qualified tutors through the Itinerant Music Programme, or through private tutors in the case of drums and piano. Students may take lessons on up to two instruments through this programme. The following you tube video gives information on the many benefits of learning a musical instrument. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0JKCYZ8hng

Below is a list of the instruments that the school offers tuition in and the annual part charge for each instrument. This charge is a small part charge and covers hire and maintenance of the instruments.  Lessons are often in small groups of usually up to 4 students. As there are a limited number of hire instruments available annually, they are allocated on a first in, first served basis. If we do not have the instrument your son would like to learn available, one can often be sourced from another school, or alternatively through one of several hire companies. The following links provide further information from such companies.

INSTRUMENTS
Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone or Horn  -  Annual Fee:   $120 hire and lessons                                                                                                                             $60 lessons only

Violin or Viola / Cello or Double Bass                       -   Annual Fee:  $80 / $100 hire and lessons                                                                                                              $60 lessons only

Guitar - electric or acoustic, Bass Guitar                  -   Annual Fee:  $120 - lessons and use of KHS instruments at school

Drum-kit and Piano:  We also offer lessons on site, with qualified private tutors. Piano lessons are one on one lessons. One on one Drum-kit lessons are also available, or lessons can be in groups of two at a lower cost. These may be before school or during school in our music rooms. Lessons for drum-kit and piano are charged by the private tutor at a different rate than above. Information on their fee structures is available on request.

As lessons on a number of instruments are popular, they will have a waiting list.  It is expected that your son, once accepted into lessons, takes their instrument home (excluding guitars/electric basses) after each lesson and practises it regularly. By practising regularly, your son will quickly gain the skills and enjoy playing. He will also stay up to the pace of all the others, if in group lessons.

Once enrolled, the school reserves the right to discontinue lessons if students fail to attend three consecutive lessons without prior notification. Parents will be advised of this before a decision is made and only partial reimbursement of the fee may be possible.

*It is each students responsibility to catch up on the class work they may miss during their music lesson.

ONCE YOU HAVE RECEIVED CONFIRMATION OF YOUR SONS ACCEPTANCE INTO LESSONS, THE ANNUAL FEE WILL BE CHARGED TO YOUR SON'S ACCOUNT. IT IS EXPECTED THAT LESSONS ARE PAID UPFRONT, HOWEVER, IF FULL PAYMENT IS A PROBLEM, PLEASE ADVISE THE SCHOOL OFFICE THAT YOU WILL BE PAYING BY INSTALMENTS.
