Mead Outdoor School Application
Applications are reviewed as received to determine if student is appropriate for any current openings.   If no appropriate openings, student will secure a spot on our waitlist.
MOS enrollment steps:
1) Research our school and other MLO options by reviewing the website and linked videos, then complete the "Mead Learning Options Interest Form".
2) Participate in an Enrollment Q&A Session. We will help you determine if this program is a good fit in terms of what MOS requires and what your family needs. The teaching parent (or both parents) and child(ren) should attend.
3) Complete all application documents, including this form. Students coming from outside Mead Learning Options will be asked to obtain a teacher/invested adult reference from someone outside the family. As needed, families may be invited to an enrollment meeting with administrators to determine best fit.
4) If enrollment is approved, families may begin completing the necessary district transfer paperwork and start investigating curricular choices using our website. The district enrollment paperwork is available on the Mead website. You will attend a curriculum fair to help choose materials for teaching ELA and Math to your child at home.
5) After completion of paperwork, you will meet with a mentor teacher to discuss curriculum, instructional strategies, and other needs you may have to teach your child at home, as outlined in your Written Student Learning Plan (WSLP).

Thank you for sharing your interest in the Mead Outdoor School, a program of the Mead Learning Options.
Please give honest detailed answers throughout so we can get to know your child. Incomplete applications may not be considered. A parent wishing to have more than one child apply must fill out a separate application for EACH child.

Please watch the linked video below of the Mead Outdoor School.

Program Overview
* We will be outdoors in all kinds of weather in all seasons. Children will need to wear sturdy and appropriate outdoor clothing.
* We will focus on project-based/unit study learning around science and social studies topics.
* Some writing/reading/math will be integrated into our on-site learning. The main emphasis of math and reading instruction will take place at home.
* Students participate in four enrichment classes called Connections.  These include PE, art, outdoor living skills and Brain Power.
* Weekly Progress Monitoring in ELA and math will take place on campus using IXL.
* Students will have some choice in the types of activities in the Connections.
* We will emphasize collaboration and cooperative learning, with a focus on leadership development for middle schoolers.
* Students may work in mixed-age groups (K-3, 2-5, 4-8).
* High schoolers from other MLO programs may apply to volunteer as Teachers' Assistants for an elective credit. A different application is required.
* For students coming from outside the Mead Learning Options programs, a written Teacher/Invested Adult Reference is required. We may reach out for follow up questions.
* Due to safety concerns, students with evidence of defiance, aggression, and/or leaving a classroom setting without permission, are not a safe fit for this program.
