#BoycottNYPost Campaign Coalition
We at the Yemeni American Merchants Association (YAMA) believe and defend freedom of speech in all of its forms, but we will not allow the incitement of hate and violence in our communities by the benefactors of hate like the NY Post. Please join our growing coalition as we build a long term campaign to strike back at every attack the NY Post wages against our communities.

Over the past two decades, Islamophobia has increasingly become normalized across the spectrum but even more so in the media at the expense of the safety and security of the Muslim American community. Islamophobia has illustrated that hate leads to violence against Muslims and those perceived to be Muslims. The NY Post, Fox News, and News Corp have demonstrated that they are intent on continually amplifying Islamophobia and using hate speech to target the Muslim community. We stand unified against all forms of hate, bigotry and especially Islamophobia.

On April 11th, the New York Post published a front page with the Twin Towers in flames and Rep. Ilhan Omar’s comments taken out of context from a speech she gave in March. This coverage created hysteria nationally, inciting death threats to  Rep. Ilhan Omar as well as fear among American Muslims across the U.S. This kind of journalism is an attack on Rep. Ilhan Omar, who is a Black, Muslim Refugee. She is a courageous reflection of he future we dream of in electoral politics and we cannot allow a newspaper to victimize our beloved communities any longer.

We at the Yemeni American Merchants Association condemn the NY Post’s attacks on Congresswoman Omar, the Muslim community, and all minority communities. We call on all of our members, small businesses, bodegas and deli owners to boycott the sale of the New York Post. We are asking individuals and organizations to sign on to support!

YAMA Demands of the NY Post:

1. We demand a public apology to Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, Muslim Americans, and minorities who have been persistently victimized by the New York Post's propaganda, which spreads nothing but hate and fear on the streets of New York City and across the country.
2. We demand more responsible and nuanced reporting that takes racism and Islamophobia into professional consideration, and accountability for sensationalist stories that undermine national unity and incite violence and hate against minority communities for the sole purpose of circulation and sales.
3. We demand the firing of New York Post's editor in chief, Stephen Lynch, who has demonstrated a clear viciousness and intent to spread racism and hysteria that leads to violence against our communities, especially in times when Islamophobia is at extremely high levels.
4. We demand that elected officials/government officials stop giving the New York Post any public platforms to spread hate and racism in this multicultural city and across the nation at large!

By signing onto the #BoycottNYPost Coalition, members will agree to:

1. Bodega, delis, convenient stores NOT sell the NY Post;
2. Individuals not buy or read the NY Post in print or online;
3. Offer no platform to the NY Post for reporting, interviews, and social media sharing (desist from sharing/liking on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram);
4. Hold elected officials who give the NY Post a platform accountable on social media by calling them to refrain;
5. Attend coalition meetings and actions as well as promote actions on social media, etc. (Actions include, but not limited to signing petitions, letter campaigns to advertisers, rallies outside of News Corp and in front of NY Post advertisers’ headquarters.)
