When did you start skateboarding and how did it influence your life, relationship to the concept of family, and sense of gender ? If you don’t skate, think of another sense of self expression to write about !
This module will focus on personal storytelling and creative writing. All students will share their writing with the group.
PART 2: ESCAPE: PUBLIC DISCIPLINE, PRESS, NARRATIVE & THE WITCH
This module will explore the origins of publications and storytelling, beginning in Europe with the publication of The Bible. We will discuss and interrogate when and how "witches" stories were told, in what settings, and what implications these historical processes had on the foundation of modern approaches to narrative confessional and subjectivity development.

Part 3: BRUJAS & The Press
We will conduct a close read and analysis of press written on BRUJAS NYC ( skateboarding collective ) and other skate collectives. We will analyze the language, framework, and content of the pieces written. We will also analyze the structure of the platforms they are hosted on and what relationship they hold to different stakeholders including; advertisers, the law, nations, and cities.
Part 4: BRUJAS or GIRLS ? Commercials and Competition in Women’s Skateboarding
We will deep dive into the world of skateboarding commercials and competition in this module, with a particular focus on gender performance. We will research and add to the BRUJAS timeline of women's skateboarding related commercials. Additionally we will discuss the implications of competition skateboarding and the olympics on skateboarding culture and on the development of capital. Peers will write and craft our own positions on the notions of equity and performance in relationship to different productions of marginalization and subjectivity. Documentation, the notion of progress, and representation will go under close scrutiny throughout this discussion.

Part 5: Welfare to Workfare: WAGES FOR HOUSEWORK & The Transition To Neoliberalism
In this module we will study the Wages For Housework & Welfare Rights Movement of the 1970's as well as the transition to an information and service based economy in the United States. We will also study the qualities of neoliberalism and gentrification that are rampant globally.
Part 6: MODELS, THE RISE OF ADVERTISING, and NEOLIBERAL WELFARE FOR INFLUENCERS
We will discuss the history and contemporary conditions of models and influencers in New York City. Peers will be asked to produce a written position that juxtaposes the demands of The Wages For Housework movement with the labor demands and experiences of Models in New York City. Race, Gender, and Class will inform our discussion.

Part 7: Performance Teleology, Equity, & Future Unions
During this session we will discuss solutions, designs, and demands related to the various issues we have studied. Peers will be encouraged to propose projects, platforms, position statements, and proposals to a panel of business owners and organizers in the BWS network.
