Join the budding Greens & Beans Grocery Co-operative, a labor based grocery store!
A co-op is a member-owned, democratically controlled business that serves the needs of its community. A grocery co-op is when a community of people purchase goods in bulk directly from suppliers, and then sell them at cost (with a small markup to account for expenses) to their members. Members are expected to contribute a small monthly fee and volunteer a certain number of hours to keep the co-op running, in shifts that range from breaking down boxes, doing the dishes, and ordering goods. This means that at checkout, the member pays much less than when purchasing from grocery stores.
In our co-op, members rights include voting at meetings, running for elected positions, attending events, and of course, shopping. Responsibilities include the payment of dues and fees, contribution of labor, and appropriate conduct in group settings. To become a member, you should fill out this interest form, attend an orientation meeting, pay dues, and sign the membership agreement. Keep an eye out for information on how to do this after you complete the form. Dues must be paid each month, and work on a self-determined, sliding scale of $5-$20. Find out more on our website.
After filling out this form, we'll be in touch to invite you to an orientation.
Ward 2 Mutual Aid is a grassroots project based in Ward 2. We organize mutual aid projects for the most at risk members of our community. Find out more on our website.
While we have a temporary spot, we're looking for spaces to host our co-op in the long term. Do you know of any?
Do you have any additional comments, ideas, or concerns about creating or participating in a local grocery cooperative?
