Adult/Parent Counselors welcome too!
Join us on the far northern coast of California as we serve in the Smith River community and rancheria. This small rural community is remote, beautiful and, because of the Pacific Ocean, often cold, damp and foggy (hooray!). The Smith River Rancheria is a federally recognized tribe of Tolowa Indians and about a third of area residents are Hispanic, many of whom are recent immigrants from Mexico and Central America. SSP will be serving people from all parts of the local community
For the most part, we will work on the homes including roofing, building wheelchair ramps and porches, painting and other general home repairs. It's challenging but fun service work where youth take on complex projects, learn to safely use power tools, and cultivate teamwork and problem-solving skills. No construction experience is needed, and you’ll be amazed at all of the work that your youth teams complete!
We will be housed at the Smith River United Methodist Church and Smith River Elementary School which are across the street from each other. Tent camping at the church is available for adventurous souls. Our Food Service Coordinators will prepare meals and we will eat at the church. We will be showering a few blocks away at the Smith River Baptist Church and some other locations around the town.
What's the cost? $450 per youth (scholarships available). A non-refundable $50 deposit is due now to hold your spot. Payments #2 of $200 is due February 14. Payment #3 of $200 is due May 15.
