River Islands Chess Club
We will be starting chess club again on Wednesday September 11th
The club will meet from 12:00 to 1:30 every Wednesday school is in session. The kids will eat lunch and then class will begin at 12:30. We will have a large group lesson and time to play chess in a step ladder tournament. All studying and homework will be voluntary for extra points. Points will also be awarded for playing games, volunteering, and behavior. Poor behavior will result in the loss of points. At the end of the year the top point earners will win a special award.
This year we will be having the first 4 weeks (9/11-10/2) just for beginning students. Any students from previous years can come to volunteer to help teach the beginners for extra points. On 10/9 we will have class for all levels.
My goal is to make our chess program a national powerhouse. In order to succeed, I need parent volunteers to come and help keep an eye on the kids and help with pick-up time. Because I will be doing the instruction, we just need other parents there to make sure the kids are behaving and paying attention. Since it's after school, this is a great way to get your volunteer hours if you have younger children because you can bring them with you.
Chess will meet every Wednesday that school is in session except for: 10/30, 11/25, 1/29, 2/26, 3/25, 4/29
The Last Day of Chess will be 5/20
