Groot Rotterdamse Atelier Enquête 2024

This survey is an independent research for and by creative makers, to gain insight into the current situation regarding workspaces in Rotterdam. Read below why and how important your input is! The survey will take about 10 minutes to complete. We would like to thank you for your willingness to participate in this short survey!

Why this survey?
Since the 1980s, Rotterdam was known for affordable studios for artists, but that position is disappearing. This year, six studio complexes closed, causing 150 artists to lose their workspace. While demand is growing, offers lag behind and rents are rising. In 2020, four artists started the Groot Rotterdamse Atelier Enquête to gain insight into the situation regarding creative workspaces.
This led to awareness and policy adjustments from the municipality, which are now included in the policy paper Atelier- en broedplaatsenbeleid 2023-2030. With a new survey, we want to offer fresh insight and encourage action for better workspaces and more sustainable policies.

This second survey is a voluntary initiative by Annejet Gosselink (Groot Rotterdams Atelier Weekend), Jette Schneider (TimeWindow) and Sander van Wettum (Fotograaf en Atelier Unie Rotterdam) and independently conducted by Katta Rasche with support from Elisa Matse (researchers in the cultural sector).
