I am writing to express my strong interest in the Undergraduate
Research Support Programme advertised by the Directorate General of Science and
Technology, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. I see this program as
an excellent opportunity to enhance my intellectual, academic, and research
skills. Participating in this initiative will significantly contribute to
achieving my goals. My academic aim is to empower young individuals with
cutting-edge knowledge, thereby producing competent and talented graduates who
will contribute to societal advancement and ensure the efficient functioning of
public and private enterprises, organizations, and institutions. The aim of my
research is to promote a clean and green environment, maintain a healthy
society, and contribute to the economic development of my beloved country,
Pakistan. To achieve my academic goals, I am continuously improving my academic knowledge which is why I did
not stop my education at the BS level but rather got admission in MPhil program
soon after completion of my BS degree. To meet my research objectives, I have concentrated on two
critical areas: (i) water purification and (ii) green energy production. Water
pollution, exacerbated by emerging environmental contaminants, has recently
garnered significant attention from researchers. This concern arises because
various classes of these contaminants are continuously entering water bodies,
thereby degrading water quality. These contaminants adversely affect human
health and other living organisms. The situation is particularly alarming in
developing countries like Pakistan, where the over-prescription of drugs such
as antibiotics exacerbates the problem. Over 80% of our hospitalized patients
suffer from illnesses linked to polluted water. Consequently, water pollution
not only diminishes the productivity of our industries due to worker illnesses
but also incurs substantial healthcare costs for treating these diseases.
Additionally, thousands of children die each year in Pakistan from cholera, a
waterborne disease. These repercussions of contaminated water have a
detrimental impact on Pakistan's economy. Therefore, proper removal of water pollutants will not only maintain a
healthy society but will also boost the economy of our country. In addition, to
solve the power shortage problems and boom the industrialization of our
country, there is a great need of producing renewable energy such as hydrogen
via solar light mediated photocatalytic water splitting. To successfully
achieve the aforementioned of my academics and research, I am continuously
strengthening my theoretical and experimental knowledge in my MPhil program. My research focuses on developing graphene
oxide and nitrogen-doped graphene oxide-based photocatalysts, which hold
potential for degrading water contaminants and facilitating water splitting
under natural solar light irradiation. I am optimistic that I will successfully
develop stable, active, and economically viable photocatalysts capable of water
decontamination and solar hydrogen production via water splitting. This will
contribute to environmental sustainability, the maintenance of a healthy
society, and the resolution of energy challenges.
