Who We Are: We are a group of students studying Environmental Science at the UW. This restoration project is our capstone project.
Our Project: We want to restore the environmental well-being of a site within the north side of Yesler Swamp (which is near the Union Bay Natural Area and UW Center for Urban Horticulture). To do this, we must first remove invasive and unwanted vegetation, and then plant desired species. Work parties will run from approximately January to May to complete the project.
The Plan for Feb. 25 and Mar. 3: As it's still just the start of the site restoration project, we will take these dates to remove invasives (mainly Himalayan blackberry and reed canary grass). No previous experience necessary. It will be fun and satisfying! We will provide tools and snacks. Make sure to dress for the rain and wear sturdy shoes, as certain parts of the site can be a little rugged. We will be meeting at 10:00am at the intersection of NE 41st St and NE Union Bay Pl. (The site is about 1 mile from UW main campus.) We will be wrapped up by 2pm. If you can't come for the whole session, that is fine, swing by any time!
If you are able to join us, fill out this form and we will email you with details! Tell your friends and family to join as well! :)
