Green Light New York: Organization and Business sign-on in support of A.10273/S.8680
On April 4, 2018, Assemblyman Marcos Crespo (D-Bronx) introduced A.10273. Shortly following, Senator Luis Sepulveda (D-Bronx) introduced an identical bill S.8680 into the Senate. If passed into law, this legislation would give the green light for all New Yorkers to apply for driver licenses regardless of immigration status. This bill will allow immigrants to drive legally, open bank accounts for financial security, and feel more secure reporting crimes to law enforcement who ask for identification. Expanding access to drivers licenses will bring in an estimated $57 million in state and county revenue, support small businesses and farms that rely on immigrant labor, and improve road safety by allowing immigrants to sign up for car insurance.
