Audio to MIDI and analysis
The technical goals of this lab are to learn the steps to taking advantage of the Audio to MIDI features in contemporary DAWs.   The artistic goals are to use this audio to MIDI process for to aid in both the analysis of existing works and creation of new works.

Making or Analyzing Beats
Get the beat
Record yourself beatboxing (do this along with a track for analysis, or along with a click for original composition)
Convert the beat
In Ableton Live, right click on the audio clip and select Convert Drums to new MIDI track.
Edit the beat
Edit the MIDI notes until the beats line up properly (or to taste).
Melody Creation or Analysis
Capture a melody
Record yourself singing along with a song, or creating a new melody.
Convert a melody
In Ableton Live, Right click on the audio clip and select Convert Melody to new MIDI track.
Edit a melody
Edit the MIDI notes until they line up with what was sung or are all in the key of the melody, even if this singer missed a note.
Download a melody
Download a solo monophonic instrument performance.
Covert a melody
Convert to MIDI and see how well the conversion worked.

Quick Sampler
Get some sounds
Import or record a short audio clip (speak A, E, I, O, U for example)
Slice the sounds to samples
In Ableton Live, Right click on the audio clip and select Slice to new MIDI track.  You may be presented with a few options,  try each one, see what works best.
