Philly Water Department, Penn Sustainability, SEAS Green Team and The Philadelphia Canoe Club (PCC) are teaming up to clean the banks along the Schuylkill River!
WE NEED YOUR HELP! (RAIN or SHINE within reason! WEATHER LOOKS GOOD!!!)
Here's the plan:
8:00 - 9:00 AM, Saturday those that wish to carpool to the location will meet at Philly Canoe Club at (4900 Ridge Ave.) This is encouraged for those who would prefer to leave cars at The Philadelphia Canoe Club or don't have transportation.
***WE WILL LEAVE FOR THE SECURITY GATE NO LATER THAN 9:15AM SO MEET AT SECURITY GATE ADDRESS BELOW IF LATER THAN 9:00AM.***
For those going straight to the cleanup location, arrive at the security gate of the former paper mill to proceed to the parking/meeting area at the far end of the site. There will be ample parking here too, picture shown below.
We ask you arrive by 9:30am
SECURITY GATE CLEANUP LOCATION (Parking lot on left just before gate):

Once everyone has arrived at the Flat Rock/Venice Island (see map below) location we will gather for a safety meeting at 9:45am before the cleanup begins.

The second waiver is for The Philadelphia Canoe Club where our meetup and post cleanup celebration will take place.

(We will have physical copies for those who were unable but would prefer not to waste too much time on waivers day of the event, etc. Thank you for your patience with this aspect of our cleanup!)
We will be cleaning up the Flatrock portion of the Schuykill about 10-15 minutes west of PCC and working our way back East towards Philly and the Club. This is an area that was cleaned in October of 2019, but the pandemic along with historical flooding has left this area untouched and in desperate need of your help!
There will be food, beverages, and grilling at Philly Canoe Club in the afternoon (1-3PM) after our cleanup to celebrate our efforts and relax! There is a covered porch and beautiful indoor/outdoor space with ample private parking.
