Rockhounds! It's spring! Ready to get out? Here is the list of trips where you can find us through June.

We are using Google Forms to sign up this year. The trips will be OPEN to anyone who signs up. As soon as we max out, it will be posted as full, but you will still be able to sign up & be on the wait list (all of our wait list tickets were honored last year). We'll give you a two week reminder for the trips you reserved this year, but please put them on your calendar and let us know ASAP if you can't make it so we can open your spot to another rockhound!

We aren't set up to take payment online at reservation, so reach out to Rick for payments.

BRAZIL (June 3-June 12, 2024)

Date: Monday, June 3 - Wednesday, June 12, 2024

Location: Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, BRAZIL

Vehicle: None needed - all transportation included in Brazil

Kids: Kids 12+ can come with their 21+ guardian. Otherwise, 18+

Difficulty: Some locations will be easy surface collecting, others will have digging and pounding required plus some tough hikes

Skill: Ranges from garden-type digging and surface collecting to hammer & hoe digging and more

Tools: Will be provided

Limit: 12 people

FEE: $3990 per person, plus airfare

About the trip: This is an inclusive tour of several cities, mines, and rockhounding sites in the mining state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. We will be collecting topaz, tourmaline, quartz, gold, aquamarine, diamonds, and more. The price includes hotels, breakfast and dinner meals, all transportation within Brazil, tools, visas & travel docs, rockhounding, visits with mine owners, retail and wholesale shops, and a local guide/interpreter.

DINO DIG (Saturday June 22, 2024)

Date: Saturday & Sunday, June 22-23, 2023

Location: Newcastle, WYOMING

Vehicle: Cars

Kids: Will have a blast

Difficulty: Light to moderate digging, clearing of overburden may be taxing for some

Skill: Basic rockhounding

Tools: small screwdrivers (some with the tips ground to a point), dental picks, exacto knife, screens, ski goggles (in case of wind), PaleoBond, wrapping like foil or paper towels, insect repellant, optivisors, chop sticks, duct tape, hand trowel and 3 prong rake. No hammers needed.

Limit: 20 people ea LP in kmmío9lch day. At the discretion of our host (not us), you get to keep close to everything. They won't let you have anything Pachycephalosaurus, large T-Rex teeth, or anything of significant value (again, at the discretion of our host).

Fee: $545 per person, per day. Yes, even kids. You can dig one day or two, you will need to sign up for each day separately. YOUR SPOT IS NOT RESERVED UNTIL YOUR PAYMENT IS RECEIVED. Contact Rick to arrange payment, 801-910-6958.

About the trip: This is a private property, invitation-only dinosaur fossil dig.

Not everyone will find a T-Rex tooth but certainly everyone who works will find fossil teeth. Also found here are Pachycephalosaur, Triceratops, Edmontosaraus, and various other raptor bones and teeth. The area is Upper Cretaceous (100 to 66 million years ago) and very prolific & extraordinary. Triceratop horns, frill fragments, horn buttons, etc. are common.

It is an all day drive to get there (~9 hours from SLC) so plan on an extra day up and back. It is very remote. No campers or staying overnight at the site.

SOLAR WIND (Saturday June 29, 2024)

Date: Saturday, June 29, 2024

Location: West Desert, Utah

Vehicle: High clearance 4x4 required (or an extra long steep hike)

Kids: not recommended

Difficulty: Very Strenuous. Do not sign up for this trip if you have a heart condition or any limiting physical factors (like recovering from surgery)

Skill: High. This can be a frustrating dig. Not everyone succeeds.

Tools: Basic rock hammer, selection of chisels, 1/8th inch & ¼ inch screens. Paint brushes, dental picks. You must have the screens!

Limit: 15 people

Fee: $185 per person. $175 cash price. Your spot is not reserved until payment is received; contact Rick to pay by phone (801-910-6958), email (rdalrymple@kw.com), or messenger.

About the trip: This is a world famous location for bixbyite, black manganese oxide cubes. They typically are highly modified and come in a range of sizes from a millimeter across to nearly an inch. Associated with fluorite and topaz, pale to sherry tan that fades to pink in sunlight, up to an inch or bigger. We will also be digging at the durangite/cassiterite location (also black topaz).
