Two new developments are being built on N. Lombard Street and N. Hodge Street . . . within a half block of the school and church. The development in the middle of the block on North Lombard will be 3 stories high with 18 units. The development that is on the corner (and the closest to the parish and school) will be 4 stories high with 36 units. There is NO on-site parking provided for these 56 units.
The lack of parking for these units causes great concern for the safety of our students, daily parishioners, and families. The parish community is growing: the school has over 240 students in grades PreK-8; the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry serves over 140 families every month; there are 20 daily Mass-goers, many of whom are senior citizens; and a Senior Luncheon is served every month to over 50 guests.
Holy Cross Parish and School are asking the University Park Neighborhood Association to support our efforts in asking the City of Portland to create a school safety zone on N. Hodge Avenue during school hours. Specifically, two-hour parking will be available on North Hodge from 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. The safety of our children and families is of paramount concern and a safety zone must be created by the school and parish.
Please sign this petition and show your support for the safety of young students and their families, our senior parishioners, and guests to the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry.
