This Application must be submitted by January 5, 2024. You must first receive approval from the teacher with whom you plan to intern (see question #8 below).

Applications are subject to final approval by Internship Advisors. Applicants that are approved will enter into a lottery system due to the limited number of internships available. A lottery drawing will be held on February 2, 2024 at 2:20pm in the Heritage Room. All prospective interns are encouraged to attend.

The In-School Internship:
Student will intern with a teacher/mentor inside Huntington High School and will work with that teacher in the classroom. This is appropriate for students wishing to pursue a teaching career or those interested in a particular field of study in which a teacher/mentor possesses an expertise.

The Out-of-School Internship:
The student will intern outside the school in an area or field of interest. Internships might include working within a retail establishment, with a professional such as a doctor, architect, lawyer, in a non-profit organization, etc.

We are delighted that you would like to enroll in the Student Internship Program. We hope that you find this a rewarding and enriching experience. Below is a checklist of your responsibilities. Refer to it on a regular basis to keep yourself on track and to help you manage your time.

You will be scheduled to attend monthly meetings with the internship advisors. Workshops will cover topics that are related to building skills that you will need in the work place and college. Meetings will be held once per month and you are required to dress professionally. These meetings are a required component of the internship program. Meetings will be scheduled monthly throughout the year during your internship period, study hall, lunch, or special attendance. Meeting schedules will be posted and sent to you via the Remind app.

Check your Remind regularly. We will communicate with you via the Remind app.

Attendance will be monitored. Failure to attend may result in a failing grade. If you are participating in an internship in the High School, your mentor will report your attendance. IF YOUR PLACEMENT IS OUTSIDE OF THE HIGH SCHOOL, YOU MUST HAVE YOUR MENTOR SIGN YOUR DAILY ATTENDANCE LOG. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR TURNING IN THE LOG TO THE STUDENT INTERNSHIP ADVISORS DURING THE MONTHLY MEETINGS.

Keep a journal of your experience. Journals will be collected once a month at the monthly meetings.
