Boyle Skating Club Volunteer/Fundraising Policy

The Boyle Figure Skating Club is a non-profit organization. Registration revenues only cover a partial portion of the expenses of our club. The club relies on volunteering and fundraising to successfully operate and to keep costs lower for families. It is our policy that families must fulfill their volunteer and fundraising duties.

Each registration must include a completed form and one volunteer/fundraising post-dated cheque (March 31, 2025) in the amount of $200 for each family.  Registration deposits and post-dated cheques must be handed in before participants will be allowed on the ice.  Each family will have to complete both their volunteer commitment and fundraising commitments by the end of the 2024/2025 skating season in order for the family to receive their cheque back.  If the volunteer and/or fundraising commitments are not completed by March 31, 2025, then the club will cash the volunteer/fundraising cheque unless there are extenuating circumstances that have been approved by the BSC Executive.  In the event that there are insufficient volunteer opportunities for each family to meet their requirements, the BSC Executive will consider this before cashing any cheques.

Volunteer Commitments:

-Each family is required to participate with 1 volunteer commitment.

-The volunteer hours can be made up at but not limited to: Christmas party, sorting fundraising orders, carnival, etc.

Fundraising Commitments:

-Each family is required to participate in fundraisers throughout the season.

-Each family will be required to sell a minimum amount for each fundraiser that has been determined by the fundraiser coordinator. Each family will be notified what each minimum is just prior to each fundraiser.

-Each family will be required to sell a minimum number of tickets for raffles. The minimum number of tickets will be determined by the fundraising coordinator and families will be notified just prior to the raffles.

Skaters Code of Conduct

Skating is a competitive and individualized sport which requires safe and courteous behavior from all participants, on and off the ice. Skaters need to be aware of one another and react predictably to ensure their own and others’ safety. Each skater is responsible for being aware of and practicing the rules of etiquette and safety noted below.

·       Due to insurance requirements, only registered Skate Canada members are permitted on the ice, except in a medical emergency (If parents are wanting to help on the ice, please inquire with executive for permission and then Skate Canada fee of $65.00 will need to paid.)

·       Food, drink and gum are not permitted on the ice; plastic water bottles are acceptable but must be left at the boards. Glass bottles are prohibited.

·       Spectators, including parents of skaters, may watch quietly from the stands or seating area – not by the boards- but must refrain from conversing with or offering directions to skaters on the ice. (If a skater needs more direction, the coach should be consulted after the session, and a plan developed to help the skater become more independent.)

·       The gates in the rink boards must be kept closed while a session is in progress, to ensure the safety of skaters on the ice. Sitting on the boards is not permitted.

·       Skaters must clear the ice promptly at the end of each session.

Behavior on the ice

·       Skaters must always look both ways when leaving the boards.

·       Skaters are expected to be skating at all times while on the ice, and to get up promptly after a fall in order to keep pathways clear for other skaters.

·       The ice surface should be used for practice, not for conversation. (Working in small groups with coach’s approval is acceptable.)

·       Foul language, yelling, and abusive or aggressive behavior, including kicking holes in the ice, are prohibited, and will result in loss of privileges.

·       No bullying.
