Program Description
The NCVPS Student Research Alliance is a unique opportunity for high school students to conduct original research on topics of interest related to NCVPS courses. The goal of the program is to provide a platform for innovation and to create resources for students to deepen their understanding of specific course content.

Applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered for selection as a student research fellow:
Candidates must be in high school as and must have completed at least one NCVPS course.

Applicants should propose an original, thoughtful research inquiry and establish how it relates to one or more courses offered by NCVPS. Research does not have to be scientific: a student may choose to delve into a historical event, derive a new mathematical theorem, or study a psychological phenomenon.
Students must have extensive prior knowledge of the subject of their research. This can be demonstrated by the completion of advanced courses (AP, IB, dual enrollment, etc.) or by extracurricular experiences in the subject area. A strong background in English and research is also recommended.
Applicants are required to have regular internet access and several hours per week to devote to research

Selected research fellows will engage in a dynamic research process that involves collaborating with peers and instructors. Each student will be paired with a teacher to mentor them in their chosen subject area. Members of the NCVPS Student Research Alliance will meet virtually to discuss the progress of their projects. However, each study will be conducted independently: students will be expected to acquire and evaluate research materials and sources on their own. At the conclusion of their study, each student will write a formal research paper that details their findings. Papers will be published online for students to read for educational enrichment. Additionally, participants will present their research to an audience of students and teachers at NCVPS Café Sessions. Throughout the program, students will gain invaluable research experience that will benefit them in college and beyond.
