Lamorinda Unplugged Pledge

Inviting all Lafayette parents and caregivers to join the Lamorinda Unplugged movement! We are a group of parents who are increasingly alarmed about the era of technology-dominated childhoods and the resulting mental health crisis with children and adolescents.

We have been following the data—-as well as countless articles, podcasts, studies, and books—-and the evidence is clear: early and unfettered access to smartphones, tablets, social media, and messaging apps is directly linked to increasing rates of anxiety, depression and loneliness in kids, and has impacted kids' ability to develop real world skills such as focus and independence and often academic performance.

The mission of Lamorinda Unplugged is to rally our parent community to around the evidence-based guidelines for kids and technology. This means postponing smart phones until after 8th grade (ideally longer), delaying social media until age 16, and encouraging greater independence.  Whether your child has a phone or not, let's collaborate on effective guardrails and new norms.

Together, we can cultivate a happier childhood for our kids. Please fill out one pledge per child as necessary.
