Music Matters Appreciation Lectures
Music Matters is a series of donation-based appreciation lectures given by Asheville FM DJs, volunteers, and affiliates. Topics will vary according to the unique passions of the presenters but will likely focus on the historical, theoretical, or cultural aspects of various genres, artists, bands, labels, and even musical instruments.

Join us on Monday, September 24th, from 7-8:30 p.m. for Astral Asanas: A Yogic Experience of Van Morrison's "Astral Weeks." In this Music Matters event, Sarah B. (host of Songs for Friends) will give a 30-minute lecture on Morrison's transcendent sophomore release, followed by a 60-minute yoga practice that will use the album as its soundtrack. We will experience the music through movement inspired by Subtle Yoga. Sarah has been studying Subtle Yoga since January and will receive her RYT-200 certificate in October.

What is Subtle Yoga? According to its creator, Kristine Kaoverii Weber, "Subtle Yoga is a transformative, therapeutic and balancing practice with postures that are accessible to most people and adaptable to most abilities. Subtle Yoga is powerful, but it's not dangerous. It is a bridge between traditional ashram yoga and today's fitness-based yoga. Rooted in the yoga tradition, Subtle Yoga can take you to the deeper more contemplative dimensions of yoga. It helps you understand how you learn about yoga and yourself, so that you can then use those skills to actualize your life and accomplish your goals."

Sounds nice, right? That's because it is! And with "Astral Weeks" in the background it's extra-lovely.

This event is FREE, with a suggested donation of $5-$50. Those who donate $50 or more will become Asheville FM members and receive an Asheville FM t-shirt. All donations will be given in full to Asheville FM. The event will take place at Town and Mountain Training Center (261 Asheland Avenue, 28801), which is located inside Town and Mountain Realty. When looking at the building, it's best to park to the right of it. Then walk up the ramp behind the building, and enter through the second grey door on the left. Yoga mats, blankets, blocks, bolsters, and straps are all on-site.
