DO NOT JOIN YEARBOOK IF YOUR ONLY REASON FOR BEING A PART OF THE STAFF IS TO PUT YOURSELF IN THE BOOK SEVERAL TIMES.
Being a member of the yearbook staff carries a lot of responsibility. The course requires that students be independent, dependable and professional when they are representing the yearbook and the school. Members of the newspaper staff need to maintain GPAs of at least 3.0 and editors need to maintain a GPA of at least 3.2. Deadlines are essential in producing the yearbook. Grades will be lowered if deadlines are missed or stories are never submitted.
You will often find yourself working outside of the classroom and even after school. There are late days in order to meet each deadline. We do not stay past 6 p.m., but editors are required to be here to layout their yearbook spreads.
Teamwork is also essential since you will be working closely with various students and you need to be able to work with various personalities. Due to school budget cuts, students will also be required to sell advertising and help in fundraising efforts.
Editors MUST attend a two-day Jostens Yearbook workshop. There will also be an on-campus day to set up your computers a few days before the start of the school year. Both of these occur the first or second week of August.
