When we launched [margins.] in 2020, we asked ourselves to recall the heart of celebration: to love what we truly love without wondering if anyone else knows its importance. With that awakened memory, we forged three new literary awards to reclaim the beauty of what we create without denying the battles we fight to be here.
The awards are as follows:
The Rishi Award - An acknowledgment of a literary artist, a seer or sage and culture bearer whose work reminds us that diverse voices are essential to a thriving cultural landscape. 2020 recipient - Echo Brown.
The Rasquache Award - An acknowledgement of a literary artist whose way of working honors and celebrates inherent cultural wealth and the ability to sustain our communities with our existing resources. 2020 recipient – Yosimar Reyes.
The Alchemy Award - An acknowledgement of an organizer or organization whose work in the literary arts is to craft and conjure a more inclusive and equitable world. 2020 recipient - Alice Wong.
Individuals qualify for the awards based on:
1) Identifying as from a historically marginalized group based on racial, cultural, ethnic, or religious identity; gender identity; sexual orientation; physical, cognitive, or emotional disability; socioeconomic adversity; and personal experiences of adversity or injustice.
2) Their contributions to the literary arts since the previous [margins.] awards (August 2020)
Please use this form to submit your nomination. If you are nominating multiple individuals, please submit a separate form for each nominee.
The nomination period is February 1, 2022 - April 30, 2022. Awardees will be announced in June, and awards will be presented at the [margins.] conference August 5-7 in Denver, Colorado (and around the world virtually).
Thank you for your submission!
